Other then brief visits to Vulcan to visit with her
mother’s family, Sin’ lived her life on the Diné
reservation. Kii was a traditional Navajo male except
that he lived with his parent’s instead of on Vulcan
with his wife’s family. His parent’s were traditional
shepherd’s, living off the land and what they themselves
made or traded for. T’Reya taught Sin’ her Vulcan
heritage and how to handle her telepathic abilities, but
raised her daughter in the traditional Navajo way she
had adopted.
Sin’ however, was anything but traditional. She loved
the simplicity of the traditional ways and helped out
whenever she was needed, but if not busy, or to say not
quick enough to get away, she was out roaming the lands
of her people or gazing at the stars.
Probably inherited from her parents, she loved learning
about the world around her, the universe, her mother’s
home world, anything and everything. She collected books
like most children collected toys. And as she grew,
determined she wanted to see what she had only read or
heard about. She also figured with her last name, it was
about time someone in the family ‘earned’ it by actually
going to the stars.
At the age of sixteen, she went to live with her
mother’s eldest brother on Vulcan. (Her Aunt had died
many years before in a shuttle accident.) There she
attended the Vulcan science academy and experienced what
it was like to have three older brothers. Three
unexpectedly, surprisingly protective cousin, Saydin,
Tevol and Maren, to make life away from home both easier
and more interesting, especially when other students
tried to date her or looked down upon her because she
was not ‘Vulcan’. She came to love the three pills. She
had found it just as hard if not harder to leave them
when she was accepted into Starfleet academy.
At the academy, she blended in with the rest of the
students being neither outstanding nor less then what
was expected for those who had been accepted at the
academy. Perhaps it was that very normalcy that caught
Admiral Harlan’s attention, for her time at the academy
was a little more interesting then she would have
guessed. It also had her spending an extra year longer
at the academy then other students and walking away with
a scar across her chest and a spirit guide in the form
of a wolf to remind her that things were rarely what
they appeared; there was also less of a sparkle in her
eyes.
Sin did not regret that extra year, but it did make it
hard to explain to her superior officers why she had not
graduated with her classmates, their obvious assumption
being that she had not been up to snuff. Her files of
that time had been sealed, only recently being opened
for a need to know basis only. And as for explanations,
she just shrugged her shoulders and said she had been
enjoying the experience too much… which up to a point,
had been true.
Not surprising, she had been assigned to the USS
NightHawk, a ship that fell unofficially between the
lines. There she probably spent as much time off the
ship as on. After serving two years, she had been called
home. Taking an emergency leave, she had gone back to
Earth to spend time with her parents and say good-bye to
her father.
Surprising, or perhaps not so surprising, her mother had
decided to remain on Earth with her in-laws. Sin’ ended
up remaining longer then planned by the simple fact the
NightHawk had gone missing in action. For the next six
months she had held off being reassigned for the sake of
her mother, but also because she did not want to be
placed upon another starship. At the end of the six
months, a compromise was arrived and Sin’ was placed on
active duty, special assignments - the last assignment
having placed her on medical leave for two months.
The USS NightHawk was finally listed as presumed lost
and taken off the official roster of starships. As soon
as Sin’ was conditionally released by medical, she was
assigned to the USS Hayden as her CSO. Over the next few
years, she served her crew well as their science
officer, but that natural protective streak held sway
and she found herself doing things that went against her
nature but were needed for the continued existence of
her crewmates and in one case, the Federation as she
knew it. Her special assignments were rarer, but no less
hard on her emotionally.
There came a point where she had endangered the life of
one of her officers for the success of a mission, though
he had volunteered, that all things finally came to
ahead and Sin could no longer disregard the damage she
had been doing to her soul for the sake of others. Where
once she had been a lighthearted daughter of nature,
life had become something dark to be always questioned,
nothing trusted and beauty was more a memory. She
requested a leave of unconditional absence. But her
request came shortly before havoc seemed to strike at
the Federation and she found herself being reassigned to
the Sharikahr. Once again she would be the CSO aboard a
starship, but this time that role would be a partial
blind as she was to be permanently on special
assignments call, only this time, her special assignment
would be aboard a starship.
Sin’ajéídishjool was uncertain how things would go on
this new ship; she could only hope that her soul was not
totally lost to her and she could do the job assigned
her as she continued to tempt fate. At least her spirit
guide had not yet deserted her.
